& Music

Music education is of great benefit to your child’s educational development. As students participate in music classes, scientific studies have shown positive associations between music education and increased abilities in linguistic, mathematical, and spatial domains in children. Those who receive keyboard instruction for example, demonstrate significantly better performance on vocabulary and verbal sequencing than students who do not receive keyboard instruction. All courses are taught by college-degreed professional Teachers/Musicians.

Offerings for Elementary

General Music Class/Beginning Hand Bells (Kindergarten-1st Grade): Students will receive weekly instruction as they are introduced to basic music theory through the use of games and activities, reinforcing the concept of beats and notes. Students will apply their lessons as they learn to play the hand bells together and have an opportunity to perform in front of their peers during a Chapel.

Beginning Recorder (2nd Grade):  Each student will receive weekly music instruction as they learn the fundamentals of proper hand and finger position, basic introduction to notation and rhythm, and how to work together as a group to play in unison. They will have opportunities to play percussion instruments and listen to a broad range of music as well. Second grade students will have an opportunity to use the skills acquired in this class as they participate in a convalescent home outreach.

Intermediate Recorder (3rd Grade): Students will receive weekly music instruction as they review note structure, begin to read sheet music, recognize notes by sound, and practice performance etiquette.
